Registration for Shrewsbury was   -AW ---.  The records are still extant and
held by Shropshire Records and Research Service.
Telephone 01743 255350.  The only chance would be to look in these records
around the date and hope that there might not be more than one from that dealer,
bearing in mind that you might be lucky and it might have been registered to the
first owner and not the dealer.  Bear in mind that they are unlikely to allow
you to  search the registers, but tread gently and they might be helpful.
They would also confirm that AW is the only likely registration.

Normally if a number is transferred then the registration document notes
"Formerly XYZ 123", so you may have more of a problem with this one.
