Paul,
the picture looks much less terrifying than what I would have suspected,
reading your lines below. It is up to you. If you want I can check with the
people I know slose to the dutch border. I am going to see them next week. I
would only need a picture with good resolution sent directly to me.
Regards, Ulrico

Dear LR Friends,
I just posted a detailed photo of the crack in my 1595 engine. You will find
it in the "Opperduit Land Rover" album under pictures on our Series One
Garage.
On the photo you will see the upper right side of the engine block. The
crack starts at the hole for the second cup plug and goes right to the back
of the block, following the contour of the third hole.
Welding and stitching is possible, but expensive, and according toe the
advise of the specialist reconditioner, not reasonable, given the
availability of other 1595 blocks or the 2 liter alternative.
Best Regards
Paul Rasch

Hello Paul,
you should not give up so early. It may be possible to weld the block and
depending where the crack is that may be a good solution to your troubles.
It involves some preparation and you need to find an engineering company
experienced in doing so. The block will have to be warmed to 150 - 200
degrees centigrade and special electrodes are required. Possibly some
machining will be required afterwards.
I think as you live in the vicinity of a port you may find somebody.
Alternatively, if you send me some pictures I will contact a heavy
engineering company who are expert welders (they produce tunnelboring
machines, big worms up to 15m in diameter and 250m long) and see whether
they know somebody locally (they are in Erkelenz, close to Aachen in
Germany).
Regards, Ulrico

Dear Friends,
The engine block of my 1950 Series One Landover appeared to be cracked and
is beyond repair. So I am looking for a replacement. Does anyone of you do
have an 1595 (rebuildable) engine for sale. Preferable within driving
distance?
I live in Lekkerkerk, a small village near Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Hope toe hear from you.
Best Regards
