Hi Diana,
the first step towards keeping the existing cross member is done...
It took a little less than an hour, of which at least a quarter was spent to
set it all up. I really could do with a larger garage or a rain free, mild
climate!
A few cracks appeared and they seem to have been there for a long time. I
cut them out a bit to make welding easier, but even so it will still require
some fettling to be done.
Next will come the connecting tubes for the tow bar.

I keep you updated. The potential decision to go on is helped by the
shipping cost for a new cross member.... 95 GBP...
