Head gasket at No4 let go into the coolant = circuit so had a lovely compressor spraying coolant over everything via the cap. There was something odd I noticed when I was undoing the cylinder head = bolts.... some were not very tight and others were!.....100K ago we bought the = car with a blown head gasket, I pulled it down and had the head done up plus the turbo = kitted, new injectors etc etc....has been fine since till now.....when I installed the head = I carefully followed the instructions of torquing the head down then dial tensioning to the = correct figures....it was tight as I recall splitting the side out of a Rothenburger socket!.... I can't work out why some bolts weren't that tight?....they of course = may have stretched.... any clues as to what happens here? Cheers Bruce from Bungendore...... ------=_NextPart_000_000C_01C56FE7.E62BB600 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Diso-8859-1"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 6.00.2800.1498" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>I used both...40nm initially with a = torque wrench=20 then 60 degrees with dial indicator then a further</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>120 with dial indicator following the = manufacturers=20 pattern.....my diesel mechanic friend who came</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>over looked at it, scratched his = head......said=20 words to the effect its a typical land rover.....and</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>I should have bought a Toyota!......he = was banished=20 from the property.....heathen..... :o)</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <BLOCKQUOTE dir=3Dltr=20 style=3D"PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 5px; MARGIN-LEFT: 5px; = BORDER-LEFT: #000000 2px solid; MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial">----- Original Message ----- </DIV> <DIV=20 style=3D"BACKGROUND: #e4e4e4; FONT: 10pt arial; font-color: = black"><B>From:</B>=20 <A title=3Dulrico.becker@xxxxxx.xx = href=3D"mailto:ulrico.becker@xxxxxx.xx">Ulrico=20 Becker</A> </DIV> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial"><B>To:</B> <A = title=3Dseries1@xxxxxxxxx.xxx=20 href=3D"mailto:series1@xxxxxxxxx.xxx">series1@xxxxxxxxx.xxx</A> </DIV> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial"><B>Sent:</B> Sunday, June 12, 2005 = 7:55 PM</DIV> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial"><B>Subject:</B> AW: SER1 Long weekend = fun!</DIV> <DIV><BR></DIV> <DIV dir=3Dltr align=3Dleft><SPAN class=3D663375209-12062005><FONT=20 color=3D#0000ff>Have you used a simple torque wrench or have you = tmeasured the=20 angle by which they were tightened?
