Dear Alex,

Don't know what's the best.

The procedure I currently follow:
- Prepare for sandblast. Remove bronze bushes, tape shock absorber
mountings, COVER CHASISNUMBER, etc.,
- Sandblast. The result always looks worse then you think (hope) before,
- clean chassis internally,
- repair the chassis,
- make extra holes for water to go out,
- sandblast again, with fine mixture,
- Scouperen (sorry don't know the English word. It is a process in which a
mixture of zinc and aluminium is blown under high temperature (locally) on
the surface,
- paint the chassis,
- apply Dinitrol to protect the inner of the chassis.

As far as I understood the problem with galvanising is that you wouldn't be
sure you cover the complete inner surface. The advantage of Dinitrol, Waxoyl
or similar products is that is soaks rust and stops further rusting in each
corner.

Sandblasting (twice) and Scouperen did cost me 175 euro. For chassis and
bulkhead.

Hello All

Land Rover Series 1 1953

What would be the best way of restoring the chassis?
There is lots of surface rust but it's not bad. I am going to sand blast it
but will that get inside the chassis?

Here are some Photos

Another question

How do I remove the old fashioned rivets?

Thanks
Alex
