I have heard this before, but it is very poor argument for the plain fact
that the LRSOC shop is too lazy to ship to the US (or not sophisticated
enough) and deal with currency exchange, Paypal, packaging, UPS, Fedex,
and the like, and heavens if a part were ever to be returned. We pay
a lot for membership, but only get partial and inadequate benefits.

Being a club isolates the members from being sued, ie, it is not possible for
a member to sue himself. In addition, any litigation requires being served
with the lawsuit, a very difficult task for out-of-state (out of jurisdiction)
entities not doing business "in the US". Even if a suit was won, it would
be impossible to locate any assets. A lawsuit in the US would require the
possibility of a financial return large enough or larger to warrant the expense
of litigation, which for a few LR parts would not cause a blip on the radar
of a any solicitor.

As I see it, the only thing preventing enthusiastic club sales to US/Canada
members is our prevalent use of credit cards where the card companies are
very strict about sales protocols (ie sending goods to a street address that
matches the card holders, insurance, returns, etc). However, North
Americans can employ other forms of payment, set up group purchases,
and or deal with a responsible local party or member that will reship parts.
