I don't know if this list is the correct place to be if you want a cure for
Lode Lane Fever, it is a bit like going to the pub if you are an alcoholic.
As yet I haven't heard of an LRA, which stands for Land Rover Anonymous (not
Land Rover Australia), however I do believe we could develop a 12 step
programme on this list.
Step 1 - We admit that we are powerless over the Series 1 in our lives and
the accumulation of bits have become unmanageable.
Step 2 - Came to believe that we must decide what is the power of the model
we need - a 1595cc or a Higher Power 1997cc.
Step 3 - Made a decision that we must turn our lives over to the pursuit of
Series 1 what ever we believe that to be.
Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless parts inventory of our Series 1.
Step 5 - Admitted to ourselves and my Series 1 mates the exact nature of the
problems of our Series 1's restoration.
Step 6 - That we are entirely ready to remove all these defects in the
character of our Series 1.
Step 7 - Humbly asked our mechanics to rectify all the shortcomings of our
recent maintenance.
Step 8 - Made a list of all the persons we had borrowed things from and
became willing to return them all once the need was past.
Step 9 - Went directly over to such people wherever possible, except when
the tool or machine was broken so it would injure them or others (so we
would get it fixed first.)
Step 10 - Continued to take parts and task inventory and when we were wrong
promptly corrected it
Step 11 - Sought through frequent and diligent effort to improve our Series
1's as we understood Land Rover, researching the manuals only for knowledge
of Solihull's intention for our Landy and the resources to carry that out
Step 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of the completion
of our restoration, we tried to carry this message to other enthusiasts, and
to practice these principles in all our Land Rovers
Cheers
Diana :-)))

I think the realisation that you have spent more than the LR is worth is
the first stage of recognising that you have Landroveritis! Thankfully
you are subscribed to a wonderful self help group for those similarly
afflicted. ;o)
I once tallied up how much I had spent on my restoration but then I
spent a 'bit' more: I am presently ignoring everything I have actually
spent to date and am rejoicing in how much I have saved by stripping off
all the paint, doing the bodywork and re-spraying everything myself!
Denial is great but I am really pleased with the finish: it must be OK
because a couple of folk have asked if I would do some paintwork for
them.....they could also be pulling my leg.
Since I have saved so much by spraying the panels myself I'll be able to
start the refurbishment of my 80" once I have my 88" S1diesel on the
road: hopefully the engine will be fully reassembled and running within
the next week or so!! That just leaves the wiring loom....... ;o)
