So much assumed in so few words :)  I've been looking at using
Time::Piece for our timestamp representation, and just fought with
subclassing it to create our ap_date model.  At first, everything looked
fine, it works more smoothly for that than DateTime.  Then I discovered
that it isn't fully subclass-friendly.  (To whomever was having problems
with Time::Piece::MySQL, I now know why that module works as it does)

At least this is educational!
