If your vehicle wiring has been messed around with then the simple way to
fit a trailer socket is to scrap all the wiring that runs to the rear end. As
you will need to get hold of a sleeved 7 core cable for the trailer socket
purchase enough to run from the engine bay to the rear cross member. This can
then carry all your electrics for the back end in one clean circuit. You will
need a 7 pin junction box to receive the wiring for redistribution to the
brake and tail lights and the trailer socket itself. You could try using the
trailer socket for this but it all tends to get too crowded.
I know this will meet with horror from some quarters but I used a terminal
strip. Whatever you use you will need to ensure it is made watertight. From the
strip connecter I made my own short harness to go to either side. You can
use this system even if you don't fit your indicators straight away as of
course all the wiring will be in situ ready to connect when you get round to it.
