    It has certainly been around,
    Sounds like it was limestone originally then. The greenish colour on 
the chassis is a zinc chromate based primer. This seems to have been 
used from early 1950 and certainly not on the earlier silver frost 
painted chassis. The aluminium was never primed at all but there may 
have been some chemical etching process used.
    I agree with you re the door theory.
    Original colour for the track rods and all of the bits and bobs such 
as diff housings springs, shackles was black Replacement tie rod ends 
etc. may not have been painted at all.
