Diana,

 I wholeheartedly agree with the choice of route you have chosen but 
would prefer not to do it now with the temps the way they are at this 
time of year (Birdsville is showing 29 C at 9pm)   but as an exercise in 
distances for our overseas friends I was suggesting it wasn't just 
around the corner.

Like most countries we don't live in the actual distance to the imagined 
distance can differ greatly

Any chance to go west of the Divide is great as is the open horizon and 
the colours of the country out west in my case.
