Yes a useful tool if you drive a Toyota Corolla but it always gives the
route with the most sealed roads. Try entering Oodnadatta as the start and
Birdsville the finish, it directs you through Alice Springs NT and through
Mt Isa to Birdsville a distance of 1842 Km and 27 hours non-stop. Then
break that into sections with Maree as the intermediate destination, you use
the Oodnadatta and Birdsville tracks and a distance of only 1033 Km and 22
hours.
I prefer the Land Rover routes and this is the Series 1 Land Rover List
after all. So how about we use the road from Coober Pedy to Oodnadatta
196.3 Km 4.55hrs then across the Simpson Desert via the French line to
Poepples Corner, climb (no so) "Big Red" (anymore) then to Birdsville about
500km and 3 days to a week. Birdsville through Bedouri, Boulia, Dajarra
onto Mt Isa. A final distance of 674 Km and 8.29hrs. In total about 1,370
Series 1 Land Rover Km and almost a week of enjoyment.

If you use these two sites you will be able to plan both your trip and
your weather......... Good
Luck................http://www.travelmate.com.au/MapMaker/MapMaker.asp
and http://www.weatherzone.com.au/
Coober Pedy to the Isa just a leisurely drive of 1800 + kms and 21 hours
plus or minus the wandering stock and roos Roads are good until you
get to Queensland Border .............
