SER1 Clutch pedal mechanism

Subject: SER1 Clutch pedal mechanism

While trying to see what the transfer box was up to, I depressed the clutch 
when suddenly the clutch lever went down and did not come up again. 
Something inside the bell housing let go and there is now no resistance, nor 
does the clutch engage.

Having never seen the inside of this gearbox & clutch, what could have 
happened?

Get the feeling that I am going to have to pull out the gearbox and transfer 
case :-(((
