I have a 1956 gearbox fitted to my 1952 Series 1.

I can engage 4x4 low range and high range. But can only seem to get 2x4 when
in neutral on the transfer box. The result is power output to both front &
rear propshafts. IOW the plunge lever will only disengage (pop up) in
neutral but then I cannot move the 4x4 gear lever into forward into 2x4
mode.

I assume that there is a problem if this gearbox work the same as a SII or
SIII box. Just checking that LR didn't build a gearbox that only did 4x4 and
relied on free wheeling hubs to resolve diff wind up.

What could be the problem?

Thanks
