Michael,
the spark is "diamond blue". As coming from the book I'd say. Only cold is
preventing me from having a go at it. As soon as temperatures will be above
0 I will give it a try. If it does a few revs that will suffice.

Hi Ulrico,
Yes, the distributor in the photo has a vacuum advance unit that
must be matched to the draw in the carburetor to operate properly.
The screw to the right is to adjust the advance-retard to match
the grade of fuel being used usually by tuning out pinging or engine
knock (predetonation) at optimum rpm, but not so lean as cause
motor wear. The carburetor looks like it might be corroded or
gummed up preventing precise operation.
As you know, carburetor settings and timing are inter-related where
a near lean mixture that produces the highest rpm is the desired result,
as well as performance at the high end of the operating or driving curve.
It will idle at most low end settings. In either case, you should be able
to get the engine at least running or turning over on it's own, fine
tuning will be another matter.
Are you getting a hot blue spark, or weak yellow fizzle?

last week you sent me a very detailed mail as to the things needed to be
done to get "the spark". You also mentioned a vacuum advance mechanism. I
would have assumed the device shown here is such a thing. The littel pipe
llinks to the carb, pretty much at the pont of lowest pressure in the
venturi pipe, judging from the input to the carburettor housing.
