Hi

One thing I remember with my 2a is that the erratic speedo can be caused 
when the nut at the back of the gearbox becomes loose. This is the nut 
hidden where the rear prop shaft bolts on. You have to remove the 4 
bolts that fix the prop shaft to the rear of the gearbox and Lo, there 
is the nut.

I seem to remember in one of the Landy  mags that they covered it and 
said that  when this nut is tight, it pinches the worm drive inside the 
gearbox. When the nut  becomes loose, the drive can slip causing the 
erratic reading.

Tightening the nut cured my speedo problem.
