    G'Day Mike,
Is the Auster still in the family? The MkIII Auster flys
beautifully, very easy to trim longitudinally but it certainly does not
fly itself like a Cessna, Piper etc., the trick with Austers is getting
them back onto the ground with some degree of elegance and still useable
afterwards. Most of my student flying has been in Citabrias, they have
very similar habits on the ground, and are great fun to fly (except when
doing stalls and spins etc., being aerobatic they are a bit on the
twitchy side).
I do quite a bit with the Temora museum, making the odd tool,
handling planes etc., and am due for a ride in one of the Cessna A37s,
they really have some get up and go, 0 to 100 Kts. in about 4 secs.,
gear limiting speed 140 Kts. so to keep speed down, the climb out is
nearly vertical on full throttle, of course they can be throttled back
but the pilots say it is not as much fun.
Regarding the 88", contact Ian Patrick for more info or at least
where to obtain it. Ian lives around the corner from me, he and his
father are 80" and ex-military enthusiasts. Ian has two ex Australian
Army 88s, one is a Series II and the other a IIa? The latter is an
oddball as its makers ID plate indicates that it is a 3/4 ton (ie.
109"). It also has all of the Series III bits and pieces, even the rear
wiring harness is for a 109" Series III with the extra wiring tucked up
into the chassis rail. The other mystery is that the Army never bought
88" SWB, all were LWB.
    Ian's email is Ipatrick@xxx.xxxxxx.xxx.xx
Sorry about the lack of SeriesI contect to date, here is the Series
content of the posting. Who got their Legend yesterday? Fantastic
content as usual.
    Cheers
    Allan
