Like you I bought the 1948 to 58 Workshop Manual then later the parts
manual. What I have found is that the parts manual is the most useful and
the "whole of series 1 workshop manual" deficient for the 80" models.

I have now bought a second workshop manual the TP/l38/A from the Series One
Club ( http://www.lrsoc.demon.co.uk/html/clubshop1.htm ) which is specific
to the 80" models. In fact I have 2 one in Sydney and one in Nowra where
the vehicles are.

Cheers
Diana

I completely agree. It's just that as a relative (ok, complete)
novice, it's not easy to know which books are essential maintenance
tools and which are just expensive distractions. I bought the big
green workshop manual straight away, for example, but assumed that
the parts manual would only be required for painstaking restoration
or professional use. Wrong! You need it to order the right kind of
spring bottom plate. I also bought the Practical Classics compilation
of Series 1 restoration articles, which is fun to read but a lot less
useful than the Parts would have been, and various other books of
dubious usefulness.

One of the first things I would want to build up in a FAQ is a set of
recommendations for books, tools, spares, etc.

That certainly sounds like a good idea. What sort of volume of
material are we talking about? To be really useful they'd need to be
turned into searchable text.
