I may not have been clear, on a series one gearbox there is a nice big
oil filler hole with a lid which is held on by a clip which slides
away. (under the flap behind the main gear stick). This makes pouring
new oil in nice an' easy :-)

On my series 3 ( and I presume all such beasts since it looks like the
official parts pictures ) this same hole is under a rubber bung ( in
the same position behind the gear stick) and is blanked off with a
steel plug. To replace the main gear box oil you have to crawl around
underneath and pour oil in the level plug. What I don't understand is
why they changed to this system, and why bother with the rubber bung in
the cab since there is nothing behind it except the blanked off oil
filler. Or am I being dim ?
