I had a chat with a retired senior regional BBC engineer last night
about Simon's ex-Beeb SW, and he's promised to try to come up with a
possible contact from his past who might be able to advise. He suggests
that the vehicle would have been a short-hop radio links van — in the
late 50s most Outside Broadcast vehicles were based on larger trucks,
purely because of the physical size of the valve equipment they carried.
LR SWs were usually links vehicles, and would have had roof mounts for
aerial dishes, and interior equipment racks. If he comes up with any
more ideas, I'll post again.
In the meantime I've also emailed the editor of 'Prospero' — the
bi-monthly magazine for BBC Pensioners — in the hope that he may be
willing to print something that would go direct to retired OB staff of
the period. If so, I'll come back to you, Simon, for more details/pics
etc.
In the meantime (as they say on the wireless), 'Stay Tuned!'
