Apache 2 has more complexity but they also have tightened up a lot of the u=
nderlying base.

The test machine and prod machine are identical in hardware and software (o=
ther than Apache/mod_perl vs Apache2/mod_perl2) both running on Linux with =
2.6 kernel.

Apache2 handled more concurrent sessions faster... minimum gain we saw was =
only a 5% gain with some of our static content. With many of our mod_perl b=
ased applications we were getting 30-50% improvements consisently... and a =
couple went into the 200%+ range because of fixes in mod_perl2 that are not=
 in mod_perl1.

I can't say everyone will get this in their applications... but it is stupi=
d to write apache2/mod_perl2 off as "just newer... not better" without tryi=
ng it in your application.

Just my .02$
