  This is starting to get a bit off topic, but yes I would only install
  the packages you intend on using and very very little of the others. 

  For example, while you probably won't use nmap on a daily basis, it is
  nice to have it already installed when you need it. But if you're a vi
  user and don't use Emacs, why eat up the extra 20MBs of disk space and
  extra time when doing updates?
