Shouldn't you be using Boss White and Hemp to re seal the heater
connections to keep the vehicle more original.......

Hi George,

Some years ago my heater valve was leaking a bit from the connections
and I 
redid it using PTFE tape, since when it's been fine. Pretty basic
plumbing 
along the lines of central heating, so no reason why that shouldn't
work fine !
