Actually, reading all your posts, the more I think about it, the more I
think the idea could be attractive to the share holders of Land Rover, Ford.
The brand is very strong and there is basically nobody who will not turn his
head when seeing an old LR on the road. Unfortunately the company has
totally neglected to develop the vehicle and has thus created opportunities
for far east competition to conquer the major share in the market. (The SIII
would have needed to be much more comfortable to match the Toyotas coming up
and the company had a lousy service organisation in these years)
Nevertheless LR are vehicles that have maintained a character and are, in
form of the RR, socially accepted for business, leisure, socializing. Like a
Porsche. (But try to go to a business meeting in a Ferrari and you will
immediately be classified as a pimp)
So, Ford has an interest in maintaining the brand image high and certainly
some publicity will be done. And this is where we can influence this.
If we come up with a convincing proposal that gives them good returns and
helps Ford to launch a publicity campaign on that, why should they not
listen?
To give you some examples: To place the James Bond vehicle costs the company
(BMW or Aston Martin)in excess of 30m Euro (30 million Euro, for anybody who
does not believe it). In a company I worked previously in England we had a
Formula 3000 car racing, together with other companies. Our share for this
was well over a million pounds per year. And the effect? Hmmm..
A get together with the LR magazines, an event demonstrating the longlevity
of the products, a video show recording all LR that still are on the road
could be a great event and could be a perfect platform for publicity. And
the cost is relatively modest. I'd say less than 5m Euro to have it all set
up. If you then buy media coverage and screen time add a nother 100m Euro to
that.
So, what an opportunity to bring a brand to full attention!
I am sure Ford would be open to listening. But there is only one shot for
us!
So, volunteers needed!
