Here are a few more:
Definately clean all debris and paint out of the slots
The tighter the screwdriver fits, the better, even help it the screw driver)
a bit with a file or grinder to get a nice sharp edge
A good tapwith a hammer often loosens the rust bond
Or, heat up the screw with a torch ( i think we covered that one already)
