Oy Vey!
$1000 to paint a bulkhead??? They are trying to rip
you off, big time! Go to a paint wholesaler and buy
the expoxy paint, thinner and matching primer and do
it yourself.
To paint your bulkhead, and all your steel and even
aluminum parts, you can use a brush or roller and
still get a great finish. You can also get your paint
shop to make up custom spray cans with the paint of
your choice, to make your life easier.
As long as you are in a well ventilated area and wear
a good mask, you'll be fine.
If you are going to use a brush or roller, DO NOT use
the hardener for the epoxy paint. It will set up way
too fast to work with. It will take a bit longer to
dry, and not be quite as hard when cured, but has no
noticable impact otherwise and is what the paint shop
told me to do.
1. Wipe down the metal with the thinner.
2. Paint with the primer & let dry
3. Paint again with the primer & let dry
4. Paint with the epoxy paint & let dry
5. Do a 2nd coat if you want to, & let dry
5. Reassemble :)

Have fun, and save some money!!
