You need a 2.28litre bellhousing. These were fitted to the series II, =
IIa and III gearboxes. You can either swap the bellhousing or swap the =
entire transmission.

It is best to lower the front of the engine to clear the bonnet, so the =
engine mounts need to be modified. However the chassis brackets are in =
the same location so will work. When you lower the engine it increases =
the angle on the clutch operating shaft. Many people change to the =
hydraulic system from the later series vehicle.

The carby is on the opposite side so you need to extend the air intake =
hose. The accelerator linkages are on the other side so you need to have =
the cross shaft if you have a UK/RHD spec vehicle - if you have a LHD =
spec vehicle the cross shaft is already there.=20

The 2.28 litre uses a mechanical fuel pump so you extend the fuel line =
from the outlet on the glass/sediment bowl to the inlet of the =
mechanical pump. Use the original fuel line from the pump to the carby.

The bottom radiator inlet is on the other side so you can either change =
the radiator or swap the inlet from one to the other side of the bottom =
tank.

The electrical changes are not a problem.

It won't be original spec after you modify it!

EIR

Hi everyone,=20
What do you need to do/modify to put a 2.25L (petrol) engine into a 58 =
88"?
Would the the engine fit straight on to the series1 Bell Housing and the =
engine mounts, and would the electrics be a nightmare?=20
If anyone has done this ,is it a straight forward job?
cheers=20
Mark

Ps. I was watching the Gods Must be Crazy the other night and if anyone =
has seen the movie, Do you Know what Make and modle of winch "He" has =
attached to his series 1=20

Pps Thanks you for the responces to the the electrical problems i posted =
a couple of days ago. =20
