So I will check with Paddock over the weekend for the bearings. I hope they
can do something with the SI references. But as diffs do not seem to have
changed much over the years, later references may still mean the original
component.

Regarding the gauges I did not mean a dial indicator. I have a few of them.
I was referring to the height gauges (round part to substitute diff and
block to measure axial position of pinion) which I do not have. I believe
the method of adjusting by the movement marks should give acceptable
results.

    Hi Ulrico,
    The bad news is that the bearings are imperial sizes, they are not
really expensive and should be readily available from any of the parts
suppliers in the UK, who are after all just a phone call and overnight
postage away from you. The guages (dial indicators) are readily available
from any engineers supply outlet at a range of prices (and of course
quality) to suit all budgets.
