Jon,
Ordinary steam oil is wonderful in early steering boxes - good consistency
and rejects water beautifully.

I take your point totally. I'm also wondering if the benefits of these
oils apply when the milage the vehicle covers is limited. Is it more
important to have a high quality oil, because the miles are covered
with periods of sitting in the garage in between and so the lubrication
may not be as good ?, or does this mean that a cheaper oil (possibly
changed more often) can be used.
As for the steam side - I'm no longer involved sadly, but at one time
I was involved with the steaming of several traction engines owned a
family with a friend (the pair of us used to crew for them) . He now
has a Sentinel Wagon of his own to play with (lucky man) but I no
longer live close enough to make regular visits. Always looking for
someone closer who needs a crew.
