Diana,
I agree entirely: that was the main thing I watched for when searching
for oil for my LR.  I am willing to pay a bit more for oils that will I
know will not damage the yellow metals in my LRs - thankfully there are
a good range of oils out there to cater for classic vehicles with yellow
metal components.
The other problem with the additives in modern oils is that they clean
the engine too much!  The sealing tolerances of early LR engines etc
were not exactly brilliant by today's standards and a little carbon
build up helps them seal better: when the detergents etc in modern oils
get to work they remove a lot of those carbon deposits....
Just remember folks, 'Buyer beware!'

In all these discussions we need to remember that most modern oils are
very
good oils, however our old gearboxes etc. have lots of yellow metal
components.  Some of the additives to modern oils are very unfriendly to
yellow metals, whether they are changed frequently or not.

Make sure in whatever you, spend the dollars go to a brand that is
certified
safe for yellow metals.
