If you do fit your tracta joints into later swivel balls you should be aware
that they will look a little different inside.
On the original swivels, when the axle half shaft is in place there is very
little clearance between the inside of the ball near the bearing and the
flange part of the half shaft where the tracta joint engages. On the later
swivels there is quite a lot of clearance at the same place and it appears
like the half shaft is not completely fitted in. This is normal.
It is a good idea to measure the length of the half shaft from the mounting
face of the swivel to the splined end before you dismantle the old swivel.
Then on reassembly you can check for correct fitted length.
BTW When you get all the other bearings and seals, you should also order a
"new retaining collar for bearing" Part no. 217398 as you will probably have
to destroy the original collar (by cracking it with a coal chisel and anvil)
to get the axle out.
Cheers
Diana

Thank you Bob, you are so thoughtful. Let me know what condition they are
in. I was asking to see if anyone had a good original S1 pair available, or
failing that, replacing them with the later model ones. I am leaning toward
the second option as they look the same externally and apparently the S1
parts fit inside.

Karen
