    G'Day Mark,
    The early workshop manuals make no mention of rivnuts and the method 
of installing the capstan winch was to drill holes in front and back of 
the cross member and weld tubes in, the tubes being a bit longer than 
the thickness of the cross member (similar to the tubes welded into the 
rear cross member as standard for  PTO mounting).
    Note that some 80" models were shipped to Australia with a rear PTO 
as standard equipment. I have not found any reference to the winch being 
fitted as standard although a number of vehicles were set up as 
demonstrators by the state distributors with all of the "fruit" fitted. 
I would assume that generally, if one wanted a capstan winch on a new 
vehicle that the dealer would install it. Non genuine w/s manuals 
mention rivnuts, I cannot vouch for later print Rover manuals being the 
same.

    P.S. The area in northern Viictora, where you visited last time has 
had a very good season and the countryside looks as green as something 
out of Ireland, interspersed with the bright yellow of canola crops and 
the deep purple of paddocks full of Paterson's curse.
