Hi Mark,

Very nice photos - thanks for taking the time to post them. I especially
like the red 107 circus truck.

the tubes in the front crossmember were standard fitment on all 86 and 107
Land Rovers (1953 to mid 1956). Prior to then and after then (intro of the
88/109 in fall 1956) these tubes were not fitted.

If you have James Taylor's book see the pic on page 66 showing a 1954 107
with the tubes installed. One of the easiest ways to differentiate an 86/107
from an 88/109 chassis is to check for the presence of these tubes.

If one were to get fussy to see a 109 with the tuibes in the front cross
member is in a way incorrect, unless there is a winch present too.

Hi all,

I have just posted some photo's in the Garage, in my folder 'Hughie - 2
litre diesel' (the last 7 photo's on pages 2 and 3) of some of the
Series Ones which turned up for the latest meet and run, organised by
Peter Galilee and Heath Smith. There was a very good turnout with 14
Series Ones on the run, sadly I wasn't one of them due to my MOT running
out and a planned rebuild over winter. Amongs the vehicles attending
were 3 LWB's, one 107 and two 109's, one of which was an original 2
litre diesel, and the owner had come down from Carlisle - a good
effort!

The 107 was fitted with a Steve Walker chassis (later to become
Richards Chassis) and the owner thought it was the only one ever made.
It also had holes in the front crossmember for fitting a capstan winch,
but, correct me if I am wrong, but I though all the front crossmembers
were plain, and when a capstan winch was fitted, you had to install
'Rivnuts' to fasten the winch to the chassis??

Cheers
Mark
