There is a chap who drinks in my pub who is ex Royal Navy, but works as
a ships engineer for Greanpeace on various campaigns. He told me that
one time the original "Rainbow Warrior" (which was sunk by the French
government I believe)  had to be taken into dry dock in the US for some
routine maintenance. He handed over all the documentation (which
contained specifications for oils and greases etc) to the company who
were going to do the work and left it there with them. When he returned
to take the ship over again, he was told that the oil specified for the
propellor shaft was actually Whale Oil - how's that for irony!

I must add that I am totally in support of Greanpeace in their efforts
to outlaw commercial whaling, and am sorry to see that Denmark have
started this business again.
