All the efforts to protect the world as it is today unfortunately will not
change the path of nature by even a thou of an inch. Nor will it be possible
to achieve a stable equilibrium of all life forms on earth.

With mankind the first truly omnivore nomadic lifeform set its foot on
earth. Extreme adaptability led to development of intelligence and "job
sharing" gave stability to nomadic hordes, leading to civilization.
Superiority of a life form leads to growth and growth leeds unavoidably to
overexploitation. This sets the course for the pendule to swing into the
opposite direction again. What happens is that the basis for survival of the
predominant life form gets eroded and this slowly starts to become more
fragile and less resistant against changes.

The effects of social pressure are not yet well studied, but reduced
biological and cultural fertility in the so called developped countries tell
a story of their own. The increase of births possible only through cesarian
sectios has also increased a lot in the last 30 years and, whether we like
it or not, modern medicine influences genetic selection and this results in
ever weaker individuals. In animal populations this is the perfect condition
for epedimies.

All in all, mankind has seen an explosive development since 1850 and will
see an equally dynamic implosion. All modern sciences explain the fact that
a reactio always depends on the heftiness of the actio.

So, we may have 10, 20, 30 generations left, but a collapse of the world as
we know today will come.

I can sympathize with the so called "terrorists" as well as with the
moderate environmentalist movement. Personnally I am convinced that it is
not yet in the hands of mankind to break the circle of growth,
overexploitation, implosion and "rebirth" that has dominated evolution ever
since.
