Hi Mark,
I suspect it is an early S2 gear box. They do have the S1 style oil filler.
Another detail is that the bellhousig will have openings on either side for
the clutch mechanism (i.e for LHD and RHD applications). The S2 gearbox is
of use to us S1 nuts, because the bellhousing matches up to the 2L engine
with no mods.
As for the hydraulic clutch mechanism, perhaps it is a later add-on.

Hi All,
I have just acquired what I was told was a Series Two gearbox (it was a
freebie) but it is unusual in that it has the Series One style filler cap -
the removable lid held down with a spring clip, but does not have the dip
stick, and it has the hydraulic clutch fittings still attached. I have not
got a number from it yet, but just wondered if anyone could shed any light
on it. Obviously a picture would be easier, but the major will not allow
that. Did the early Series Two gearboxes have this method of filling them
with oil, or is it possible it is a lash up with various bits of gearbox?
Cheers
Mark
