I must say I tend to agree with Wayne, although I have
found the discussion quite interesting.

This battle between originality and modification seems
to crop up in every car club I have been a member of.
Really, there must literally be only a handful of
original cars left from the fifties. Any restored car
will have the following non-original things done to
it, by virtue of the fact that it has been changed
from when it left the factory.

I tender my 80" as an example; when it is finished it
will have:
new paint; new tyres; fresh fluids; a plethora of
re-manufactured parts that in some cases are 50 years
younger than the chassis; new perspex; new hood and
bows; new metal all over a chassis that was ready to
be written off; a new wiring loom that isn't insulated
with rubber, new seats; new registration number, a
home made bumper (original-looking); and
horror-of-horrors, a galvanised chassis (I didn't want
to repair it twice).

Does your car fit any of the above?

In my case I am proud of my achievements in restoring
a car, that I suspect many would have stripped for
parts. At least my car will be back on the road one
day.

To anyone who wants to modify; I say it is your car,
do what you like with it. Perhaps the rest of us could
respect their right to.
