RE: SER1 Side Plate Engine

Hi All,

I think it's generally accepted that the changeover from 
sideplate to core plug engine did not have a specific cut-off 
from one type to the other at a particular engine number but 
that engines of both types were fitted for a transitional period 
and were stamped with sequential numbers regardless. 

The change appears to have begun in the spring of 1949 (around 
the move perhaps from R86XXXX to R866XXXX chassis numbers) and I 
believe may have continued into May/June of that year. I can 
only contribute the fact that R8666826 (June 1949) has its 
original engine which is the core plug type. 

BTW, Diana - this is a new one on me; where does 'welsh' plug 
come from?
