RE: SER1 (Not) Normal Noise rear axle/Diff ?!

Hi,
In my pile of old stuff, I have a front axle housing that has a dimple
about a 3/4 inch deep.
Never noticed it, was done by previous owner.
But inside shows the ring gear had to wear into the dimple. So the
clearance isn't very great.
