<P>Hallo Tom,</P>
<P>Mark understands my technical english better than You old German! Hahaha!</P>

<DIV></DIV>>Hello Uli
<DIV></DIV>>I have seen this sort of thing before( the dimple) They are caused by
<DIV></DIV>>sheared off bolt heads from the diff carrier. What happens is, over time,
<DIV></DIV>>the 10 or so bolts that hold the crown wheel to the differential carrier
<DIV></DIV>>come loose and eventually breal off. the pieces then get picked up by the
<DIV></DIV>>spinning crown wheel and dent or puncture the axle casing.
<DIV></DIV>>Or worse, damage the differential by breaking off teeth( that could be the
<DIV></DIV>>clicking noise)
<DIV></DIV>>It would definately be a good idea to open and inspect the differential
<DIV></DIV>>because one sheared bolt means more to follow.

<DIV></DIV>> If the noise is coming from the dimple try putting a big screwdriver or
<DIV></DIV>>other metal shaft on the outside of the dimple and put the other end of the
<DIV></DIV>>shaft in your ear. If the noise is louder there than anywhere else on the
<DIV></DIV>>housing then it's a good chance that, that is where the noise is coming
<DIV></DIV>>from. and try it on other parts of the axle. You could also work out the
<DIV></DIV>>gearing and count how many clicks you get in one rotation of the wheels this
<DIV></DIV>>should also give you a clue as to where the noise is coming from.

<DIV></DIV>> I have a noise, when turning the wheels. It´s a light metalic
<DIV></DIV>>clickclickclick which sounds like a missing roll in a bearing, but
<DIV></DIV>>everything is okay or new. Is that only why there is no oil in the diff/axle
<DIV></DIV>>and that could be the clickclick from turning with the dry halfshafts the
<DIV></DIV>>dry 3 gearwheels in the diff ?
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>> I have also a small but ca. 3 mm deep dimple in the back of the diff
<DIV></DIV>>housing. Is it possible, that the teeth of the large planetary wheel
<DIV></DIV>>scratches against the innerside and make that noise ? How much
<DIV></DIV>>space/distance is between the large planetary wheel and the housingwall ?
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>> I´m not very amused about a second opening of the whole axle, both
<DIV></DIV>>halfshafts out, diff out for seeing nothing, brcause evrything is finished
