Hi Diana
Sorry about the delay in replying to this post. I have sold all my
"obsolete" auto electrical spares and so have no more early 80" Distributor
caps. I would be hard pressed to source any commercially in NZ now, about
the only time I see them is occassionally at swap meets. There are a few
Lucas NOS dealers in Australia you could try. I don't have contact details
of them though.
The correct cap for Land Rover 1948-51 is Lucas 415707. This was only made
for Rover 60 (1948-50) car (rather rare anyway) and Land Rover (1948-51),
hence the difficulty in finding new caps in captivity. Be warned there is
another version of this cap (409974) which is identical except it is 180
degrees out, ie the leads would come out the wrong way. This was fitted to
some Wolseley, Aston Martin, Jaguar etc 1948-53.
An alternative (keep you going idea) is to use the cap for Land Rover
1952-53 (which has practically the same distributor base). This is a flatter
cap with the leads coming vertically out of the top. It is also used by
Massey Fergusson 35 Tractor and is still manufactured. Lucas number is
408369 or 415298. I believe the same rotor is used for either caps.
Perhaps the early cap will be a candidate for reproduction by the SI Club
UK?
Hope this helps
