The last email was showing you the current pattern on my 10/50, 2/51 and
3/51 rims. They currently have no tyres.

Either that or the email got away empty.

The insert from my July 1950 Operations Manual (T.P. / 131 / c ) Rover Part
No. 3909 contains an insert "Tyres" Part No. 3954.

It states "The standard tyre equipment on your Land-Rover is 6.00 - 16
DUNLOP TRAKGRIP T28 PATTERN. This is a general purpose tyre suitable in the
main for all uses for which the Land-Rover was designed. It is suitable for
general cross-country work, including towing, and is serviceable both on and
off the road."

It then has a comment in italics "For certain special conditions,
alternative equipment is available as follows:- (a) FOR SOFT MUDLAND, SOFT
PLOUGHLAND, etc. ... ....obtained from the 7.00 - 16 DUNLOP TRAKGRIP T25
TRACTOR PATTERN tyre. .... (b) FOR ROAD USE Where exceptional
circumstances cause the majority of service to be on the road, and the
Land-Rover will not be expcted to to operate on soft ground, the best
service will be obtained by fitting 6.00 - 16, 6.50 - 16 or 7.00 - 16 DUNLOP
or DUNLOP FORT CAR TYRES. Only 7.00 - 16 .... ... offered as an optional
extra. (c) 7.00 - 16 DUNLOP or DUNLOP FORT CAR TYRES are also offered for
use on surfaces (e.g. SANDY DESERTS) [ We've got one of those in Oz "The
Great SANDY DESERT" ] where minimum surface contact pressures are required."

I believe the Avon and Pirelli tyres came in later on the 86" or possibly
late in the siamese bore 2 litre, about the same time that they fitted
Olympic "Bar Tread" (an Oz brand now merged with Dunlop) as standard
equipment on CKD units sold in Australia.

So Wayne if your road tyres on your 80" are Dunlop Fort Car Tyres, it's 100%
original!

So Coen - you can fit your 7.00 - 16 tyres (but only for on road or desert
use. Otherwise you will void the manufacturers warranty).

Cheers
Diana
