Provided you have fully floating rear end; and local law permits repairs on
the side of the road.

You would need spanners/socket wrench to remove the drive member, the
propeller shaft, the differential casing, a drip tray to collect the oil,
1750 cc SAE 90 EP oil, either a pump/oil syringe/of funnel to replace oil,
replacement split pin for axle Pt. No. 2428, drive member joint washers Pt.
No. 231505 x 2, joint washer differential to axle casing Pt. No. 07316,
replacement felt seal for axle/drive member ( I don't know the number)

* Don appropriate Hi Visibility Clothing.
* If the vehicle is not visible for 200 metres in all directions.
1. The driver must erect a warning triangle at the front of the vehicle.
2. Erect a warning triangle at the rear of the vehicle not closer than 50
metres and not further than 150 metres away from the approach side of the
vehicle.
3. Erect a third warning triangle at the side of the vehicle nearest to the
centre of the road.
4. N.B At night the triangles should be replaced by flashing amber lights of
amber flares.
* Install bunding around and under the vehicle to stop environmental
contamination.
* Check personal injury insurance to see if loss of limbs from run over
whilst working on vehicle is covered.
* Undertake Operation E/22 (Fully floating type axle) from part number 4291
* Undertake Operation E/24 from part number 4291
* wash out axle casing and differential to remove all traces of metal
fragments from case and oil.
* If broken half shaft remnants remain in differential undertake Operation
F8 from part number 4291
* As an alternative a 300mm long drift small enough to pass through part
numbers 06735 and 07663 then between part numbers 40760 and 11378 through to
the opposite part number 06735 and tap out broken half-shaft fragment.
* Fit replacement half shafts.
* Undertake Operation F/12 from part number 4291
* Undertake Operation E/26 from part number 4291
N.B Ensure that Operation E/26.8 from part number 4291 is attended.

I have better operation descriptions from Part number 4611 however that is
the wrong series.

I hope that this helps

Cheers
Diana

................... How would you replace a broken rear half shaft on a 58
88" on the side of
the "road" and what types of tools would I need to be carrying with to do
the job?

Cheers
Mark
