Diana,

Yes! - Also a Humber 4x4 Armoured (Pig) on Military Runflat tyres - I drove
one of these for a week before I realised there was no pressure in any tyre.
Putting air in made no perceptible difference to the handling except the Pig
rolled less. It didn't even make the steering lighter.

Trakgrips are very similar to the WWII tyres on wet or icy hard surfaces.-
Designed in the late 40s too. There is more rubber on the road but the
carcass is very rigid and the pressures need to be kept down to the 25PSI
originally recommended and not the higher pressures used on the later Land
Rovers. They are however very good on made up roads in snow and quite good
on the ordinary (for the UK) wet or muddy unmade surfaces. - Say up to 15 cm
of mud. More depth than that and they simply bog down.

They were a good compromise tyre for their day.

Nick.

Nick

Have you ever tried stopping with bar tread tyres - such as the Olympic Bar
Tread or what ever is the standard bar tread that came on WWII military
Jeeps. Particularly in the wet or on ice.

Now that IS an experience, much more like ice skating than braking.

Cheers
Diana

It should be pointed out that the Trakgrips reduce the 80" Land Rover's
limited braking capacity even further! -

Nick.
