Hi All

Have just joined the list and thought I'd quickly introduce myself. My name
is Martin and I live near Ballarat, Victoria Australia. Currently I'm in the
process (with help from people with more mechanical wizardry than me) of
rebuilding a series 1 88" built in 1958. The aim is to end up with a vehicle
which is outwardly original but mechanically modified to provide a reliable
vehicle for everyday use. To that end my mechanic is currently fitting a
200tdi and a series 3 gearbox (with Torro overdrive). The less technical
aspects I am doing myself - paintwork, soft top etc. I am not overly
concerned about originality but do want to maintain the appeal and outward
character of the series one. My poor girl has been sadly stripped of her
dignity in the past and since her release from the Australian army all
vestiges of Land Rover paraphenalia have been removed. She came to me with
no badges, homemade grill, sports steering wheel, homemade instrument panel,
huge roo (bull) bar, square trailer lights all round and huge tyres and rims
that looked simply ridiculous. At some stage the vehicle was painted cream
and I don't think they masked off anything but the windows - wiring,
galvanised sections, the gearstick, everything is cream (and I mean
EVERYTHING), all painted straight over her original green duco. I am now
gradually stripping off the layers for repainting... On the positive side
she is very straight with virtually no panel beating needed.

As I've done some canvas work in the past I am hoping to make my own tilt
but don't have the original to go by. Does anyone know where I can get a
plan, blueprint or design? I've got a good sized file of photos but actual
measurements would save time and trouble...

Anyway, I look forward to conversing with you all.

BTW I make my living as a wildlife artist - if anyone would like to see a
pastel I did of a 1954 series 1 truck cab (complete with Laughing
Kookaburra) feel free to visit my website at
www.natureartists.com/martin_scuffins.asp then Just click on 'artwork' in
the left hand list. Thanks!
