Diana,

I have only ever seen one of these fitted to a vehicle - It was fine
on-road. Off road it was not much more vulnerable than the normal steering
bars. With a guard it would have been absolutely OK.

If a front winch was needed then it looked as if it would have been possible
to move the chassis mount down on a welded tower - in much the same way as
the optional telescopic steering dampers are mounted and then a winch could
be fitted. I think there is not quite enough space to fit the unit in place
of the longitudinal steering tube. (Not sure about this - my ideas are based
on my remembrance of seeing the thing a long time ago).

It strikes me that the placement of the actuator on the drag link would make
the unit, connection links and fluid hoses vulnerable to damage off-road.
It would also inhibit fittng of a capstan winch or other drum winch.

I wonder if the same unit could be fitted in the longitudinal link position?
It would be better protected from damage and leave the front clear for other
accessories and be less obvious to scrutiny of the trenchcoat brigade!
