William,
There is a unit that can be used with minimum modification to the vehicle.
It is a ram that mounts between the chassis and the steering tube between
the steering relay and the steering arm on the axle. The only vehicle
modifications required are a bracket on the chassis and a new tube.
The ram has a valve assembly built in so that as the steering box pulls on
part of it through the relay it multiplies the force transmitted down to the
axle.
Claims are that it does no irreparable damage to the vehicle and that it
prevents shake and excessive feedback through the steering.
It is/was made in Holland somewhere - I do not have the details to hand but
it used to be findable with a Google search.
As I get older I am tempted to get one and fit it to mine too!
Nick.

I was hoping to modify the car to take a powersteering unit and ANY
suggestions and modifications to SI steering would be appreciated.
