Subject: SER1 SI steering
I was after some feedback/suggestion about modifications to a 1953 =
SWB. The=20
current steering is the original worn & nut type box that bolts onto =
the=20
firewall with 2 bolts down through the firewall (not the type that =
bolt to a=20
bracket that comes up off the chassis).
The rough terrain the vehicle is driven on is flexing the firewall and =
has=20
caused the back of the original guards to fracture. This flex also =
moves=20
the steering roadswhich affects steering if travel at any sort of =
speed over=20
rough roads.
I was hoping to modify the car to take a powersteering unit and ANY=20
suggestions and modifications to SI steering would be appreciated.
The steeringbox/firewall has been braced with a peice of 75mmx75mmx4mm =
steel=20
to the chassis which greatly improved the problem, but this is not =
really=20
what I consider to be a permanent solution, and the tyre hits the =
brace on=20
hard left turns, widening the already rather large turning cirlce.
Regards William
