SER1 Fairey overdrive 1952 80 inch

Hi
  Ok so the levers for my fairey overdrive will not fit as the manual describes. before I re-invent the wheel, am I being silly or do the levers need modifying/ fitting differently on a 1952 80 inch.
  i am sure that someone has solved this problem before, and its a bit cold out there to be fiddling about all day. (2deg c brrrrrr)
