Hi all,

Thanks for all the really usefull replies to my original question. But
all of this does not solve my underlying problem. My problem is that my
107" SW (with 2.25 petrol engine) only reach a speed of 75km/h at 4000
rpm on open tarmac. (Standard size tyres fitted) I thought it might
have had a diff change sometime and have something to do with the
differentials and ratio differences between S1,2,3. But if they are
fully interchangeable, the problem obviously lies elsewhere.

Someone mentioned to me that not all S1's had the same gearbox ratios
and that might explain the lack of speed for my van. Can anyone perhaps
shed some light.......?

Hennie

Hello Hennie,

to add to Allan's account of axles & diffs, there was a brief run from
1956
to 58 when the S1 rear axle was available with fully floating half
shafts -
this was standard equipment on the 107 Station Wagon and an option on
the
88" models and the 109 S1 pick up. These are therefore narrow track
halfshafts (shorter than the S2 fully floating halfshafts) and very
difficult to source.

I read somewhere that the Lightweight 2A/3 models had narrow track axles
and
their halfshafts were a direct replacement for the fully floating S1
axle.
Can anyone confirm this?

Chrz

Jeremy
